In this article I will try to make a tour of the city, because I was there for 5 or 6 times, so to describe it as Donetsk to Dnepropetrovsk , for example, will not work. Okay, let's see what happens.
Will take a bit of your attention and tell the background. The idea to travel to Volgograd, I came in 2005 when I learned that from Lugansk is a direct bus. In the evening departure - morning there all day in the city and just back. That is, a trip had to be one day. Just a couple of weeks before the expected visit to Luhansk chat came a new girl. Purely mechanically, by clicking on the profile, was surprised to see "Hometown: Volgograd." Posted by Marina (as her name), she confirmed that indeed lives in Volgograd. I shared with her plans, saying that I want to visit your great city. "Come! Celebrate! "- She responded immediately. Thus began our relationship, gradually grew into a friendship, as friendship is possible only for people living in different cities. To tell you the truth, I'm not really counting on a meeting, for virtual friends and promises do not always correspond to reality, but this was the case when all that was said was true. Marina and her brother met me at the station, made a survey of the city (the main sightseeing places), and in the evening we went to the cottage, where two more days swimming in the Volga River, sunbathing, eating kebabs and baked fish ... Since then, every year I go to Volgograd. And, sometimes twice a year.
But it is worth visiting Volgograd, even if it you do not have friends or relatives. Why not? The city has a lot to see. Separate the red line is Mamaev Kurgan - the height of which has not been taken at the Battle of Stalingrad. The land remembers it very much. And to feel the least bit of those glorious times, should visit the mound, stand at the monument to Motherland-Mother, listen to the songs of the front, look at the changing of the guard. As the city stretches along the Volga, there exists a chic promenade, green avenues, wide streets and narrow alleys, where pleasant to wander in search of a monument or a building of historical value. So I would not reduce everything to what Volgograd - a city of one location (Mamaev burial mound). The most interesting from a historical and tourist point of view raised in the Central district, adjacent - Voroshilov and Dzerzhinsky - interesting places on the order of magnitude smaller. From the bus station go up the bridge (it's Komsomolskaya Street) and go to the main street - Lenin Avenue. On the right hand will railway station building - a very interesting species for the count, and he is famous for its excellent architecture of the station. Go down to the street of the World, turn right and go to the main square of Volgograd. It was here that goes back, "Kilometer Zero" regional roads, the area is located below the square with the Eternal Flame monument to the fallen soldiers, and above the area - urban amusement park. On both sides of the square are two hotels, Main Post Office and NET (New Experimental Theatre). After a while we pass under the bridge and go to the theater stage (it is also building Philharmonic). The place is very broad, free and easy. And across the street can see already the central park of culture and leisure, which fall into the best little further - on the street Glazkova, or a little closer - at Zemlyansky. Go ahead. Few ups and we pass by the plant, which employs a sniper Vassili Zaitsev. Yes, the same. This tells us the sign on the building. And our intermediate goal could be seen already. We pass by the park (inside, if you search, you can find a mulberry - I recommend), and here we are at the foot of the stairs leading to the Mamaev Kurgan, and the Motherland looks into the distance and still calls for a ... A little further, one can see the central stadium, which are not only football matches but also many other sports.
Returning back. As exotics can offer a ride on the underground transport. No, no, no subway in Volgograd. But there is "an underground tram" - very original, as in my opinion, and cool in hot weather (still under the ground). We passed 2-3 stops. Our - Lenin Square. We get up and go forward jauntily down to the waterfront. If you want to see more, you can get back on the 7th Guards and also to walk, or even all the way back on foot. We come to Sovetskaya Street and immediately see a brick building that stands out amid all the others - it is building the mill, which kept the defense of the Soviet fighters during the defense of the city.
